What God's Word Teaches about Borrowing

 

While we do not believe it is a sin to borrow money, it should be entered into wisely with a full understanding of all the legal obligations and considerations.   And, while borrowing is not a sin, but yet it is not the best way either. Remember, church church is built on faith, not works. Be sure to read what the scriptures say about money and borrowing:

 

According to Proverbs 22:7, "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave of the lender" (NRSV).

 

 


 

 


So what exactly does the Bible have to say about money and handling your finances? A lot, actually. Here are a few of the many verses you can find in Scripture on the subject.

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24

“. . . but  as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures . . .” Luke 8:14

“Go to the ant, o sluggard, observe her ways and be wise, which, having no chief, officer or ruler, prepares her food in the summer, and gathers her provision in the harvest.”  Proverbs 6:6-8

“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”   Proverbs 22:7

“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.”   Romans 13:8

“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.”  Proverbs 21:20

Summary

 

 God's plan is simple.

  1. Get out of debt. 

  2. Get your people out of debt.

  3. Teach them to be givers. 

  4. Lead your church to tithe its income to other ministries.

  5. Sow your seeds.  Ask God to provide by faith.

  6. People will learn faith when they see it in action at church.

  7. Plant your seeds, water with patience, the harvest will come.

  8. See the miracle of provision by God take place
